The HMCS Yukon challenge coin - Designed in honour of HMCS Yukon (DDE 263).

This steam powered MacKenzie class destroyer was built by Burrard Dry Dock Ltd., in Vancouver, BC, and Commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy on May 25th, 1963.

During her 29 year career, Yukon steamed more than 792,000 nautical miles and visited some 30 foreign ports. In mid-1970, with HMCS Mackenzie and Provider, she carried out exercises with units of the Australian, New Zealand, United States and Japanese navies, during which time she visited the Japanese cities of Kobe, Osaka and Sasebo.

She was decommissioned in 1993 and her hull was sold to San Diego Oceans Foundation.

Fun Facts: On 25 April 1999, she left CFB Esquimalt in tow for San Diego, California, where she was to be ceremoniously sunk on July 15 at Mission Bay as a sport-divers’ wreck. Due to rough weather, she flooded and sank at the intended site one day early.

This 45mm diameter coin was produced in dual toned polished gold and satin nickel finish, with the ship's colours proudly displayed in soft enamel paint.

Other MacKenzie class ships were the Saskatchewan, Qu’Appelle, and MacKenzie… also available as a set of four here
